Guess what? BMW has confirmed that its Vision EfficientDynamics concept will go into production. The sandal-wearing supercar was met with an ‘overwhelming’ response at its Frankfurt motor show debut last year, prompting BMW execs to simultaneously shout out ‘ching ching’.

The features of the green-machine are a three-cylinder turbo’d diesel engine and hybrid motor on the front axle, and a full hybrid engine on the rear axle, making it all-wheel drive. Max power stands at 328bhp, and it will hit 62mph in 4.8 seconds while returning 75.1mpg. Just 99g/km of the nasty stuff will peep out of its pipes, which, considering that performance, is quite an achievement.

On electric energy alone, the green-machine has a range of 31 miles, but the addition of a small diesel engine gives a boost to 435 miles. No word on price or release date, but BMW did also announce production of an electric city car, called the Megacity Vehicle, due to go on sale in 2013.
