In the first accident, a Kenya Defense Force officer Robert Kipkemoi, 27, died on the spot when the vehicle he was driving collided head on with another vehicle on the Nanyuki- Laikipia Air Base road.

Laikipia East police boss Marius Tum said the two vehicles collided near Nanyuki sewerage and the driver in the other car, Joseph Mugo, 40, sustained serious injuries on both legs.

In the second accident that occurred at the gate of Nanyuki police station on the Nanyuki-Meru road, a cyclist was hit by a saloon car, which also lost control and veered off the road hitting an oncoming lorry.

The cyclist, Michael Mwangi, 23, and a resident of Likii village died at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital several hours later after being admitted.

Tum said the saloon car, driven by Nzau Munene, was speeding. He said Nzau was drunk. “The vehicle was on high speed and upon inspection after the accident, we found several bottles of alcohol which were empty while others were full in the vehicle, indicating that he was drunk” said Tum.
